Zagreb Pride has been marching through the Croatian capital since 2002, making it the first successful Pride in Southeast Europe, a march that, at its debut, required a heavy police presence to protect participants from hostile counter-protesters. More than two decades on, it remains both a celebration and a political statement: Croatia still has not legalised same-sex marriage, which means the rainbow flags filing past Ban Jelačić Square each summer carry genuine weight.
Zagreb is a welcoming and inclusive city, ready to embrace you with open arms during Pride. Book your accommodations and secure your spot in this unforgettable celebration of love, pride, and diversity.

Check rates with Expedia.comZagreb Pride is not just a celebration; it's a powerful statement of unity and a call to action. By participating, you're joining a movement that's fighting for equality, acceptance, and a world where everyone can live freely and authentically. Let your voice be heard, stand in solidarity with the community, and contribute to creating a more inclusive just society.
Zagreb is generally welcoming to LGBTQ+ visitors, particularly in the city centre. Croatia has legal recognition for same-sex civil partnerships, though marriage equality has not been established. The city has a small but visible queer scene centred around a handful of bars and clubs, and during Pride the city centre is notably open and inclusive.
Zagreb Pride is Croatia's largest LGBTQ+ event and Southeast Europe's oldest continuous Pride march, having first taken place in 2002. The annual march draws thousands of participants and has grown significantly since its difficult early years, when it faced organised opposition. It combines a street parade with cultural programming including a Rainbow Film Festival, concerts, and community events.
The march typically starts at the Croatian National Theatre (HNK), proceeds through Frankopanska and Ilica streets, crosses the main square, Trg bana J. Jelačića, and continues to Ribnjak Park. The entire route passes through Zagreb's historic city centre, making it easy to follow on foot.
Hotels in the city centre and around the main square fill up quickly for Pride weekend. The Canopy by Hilton Zagreb City Centre and Hotel Esplanade are popular options close to the action. Book accommodation as soon as dates are confirmed, as Zagreb is a compact city with limited central options.
Zagreb Airport (ZAG) is served by a range of European carriers with direct routes from major UK and European cities. The airport is roughly 20 minutes from the city centre by bus or taxi. Zagreb is also well connected by train from Vienna, Budapest, and Ljubljana, which can be a scenic and cost-effective option for visitors coming from Central Europe.
