Vienna's Regenbogenparade began in 1996 as a small demonstration of around 25,000 people, inspired by the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Today, it expects over 300,000 participants on the Ringstrasse, making it Austria's largest annual demonstration. The full route circles the entire Ringstrasse against the direction of traffic, passing the Parliament, Heldenplatz, the Vienna State Opera, and Schwedenplatz ending at Schottentor.

Vienna Pride is more than just a celebration; it's a powerful statement of unity and a call for continued progress. By participating, you're joining a movement that fights for equality, acceptance, and a world where everyone can live freely and authentically. Let your voice be heard, stand in solidarity with the community, and contribute to creating a more inclusive and just society.
Yes! Vienna is one of Europe's most progressive and culturally open cities, with a long history of LGBTQ+ visibility. Austria legalised same-sex marriage in 2019 following a Constitutional Court ruling, and Vienna's municipal government has historically been a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and the Pride events that celebrate them. Vienna's public transport authority raises the Progress Pride Flag on every streetcar during Pride Month in June, a visible signal of institutional acceptance across the city.
The Regenbogenparade, German for Rainbow Parade, began in 1996, inspired by the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York. It has grown into Austria's largest annual demonstration, with over 300,000 people expected at the 2026 edition. The parade circles the entire Ringstrasse against the direction of traffic and is free for the public to attend without registration. Groups wishing to march officially with floats or vehicles must register in advance via viennapride.at.
The parade gathers from 9:30am between Rathausplatz/Burgtheater and Franz-Josefs-Kai, sets off at noon, and circles the entire Ringstrasse, past the Parliament, Heldenplatz, the Vienna State Opera, Stubenring, Urania, Schwedenplatz, and the University of Vienna, before ending at Schottentor. The Pride Village at Rathausplatz is the festival hub on parade day, with a stage programme and food from LGBTQ+-run vendors. The best areas to stay are the Innere Stadt (1st district), Naschmarkt, or Mariahilf, all within easy reach of the Ringstrasse.
Hotels in central Vienna book up quickly around the Regenbogenparade weekend, particularly anything near the Ringstrasse or Rathausplatz. Book accommodation as early as possible. The parade itself is free and open to all without tickets. Vienna's nightlife scene, centred around Kettenbrückengasse and the Naschmarkt area, is active throughout Pride week, with specific party nights worth checking and booking in advance. Flights into Vienna (VIE) are worth locking in early, as June is peak season for European city breaks.
Vienna International Airport (VIE) is around 20 minutes from the city centre by the City Airport Train (CAT), which runs directly to Wien Mitte/Landstrasse. Vienna is also exceptionally well connected by train, from Bratislava it's under an hour, from Budapest around 2.5 hours, from Prague under 4 hours, and from Munich around 4 hours on the Railjet. The city's metro (U-Bahn) is one of Europe's cleanest and most punctual, and covers all the key Pride locations: Rathausplatz (U2), Karlsplatz (for the Naschmarkt area), and the Ringstrasse stops across U2 and U4.
