In 1962, a British couple opened what is believed to be the first gay bar in Spain on a small alleyway in Torremolinos called Pasaje Begoña, drawing LGBTQ+ tourists from across Europe at a time when homosexuality was still a criminal offence under Franco's dictatorship. In 1971, armed police raided the bars along the alley and arrested hundreds of people in what is now described as Spain's Stonewall. Today, that same alley sits at the heart of La Nogalera, Torremolinos' LGBTQ+ hub, home to dozens of gay bars, clubs, and queer businesses, and every June, the town that carries that history hosts one of the Costa del Sol's most joyful and defiant Pride celebrations.

Torremolinos Pride is more than just a celebration; it's a powerful statement of unity and a call for continued progress. By participating, you're joining a movement that fights for equality, acceptance, and a world where everyone can live freely and authentically. Let your voice be heard, stand in solidarity with the community, and contribute to creating a more inclusive and just society.
Torremolinos is a fundamental place in the history of the LGBTQ+ community in Spain — home to the country's first gay bar, opened in 1962 at Pasaje Begoña. Today it remains one of Spain's most welcoming destinations for queer travellers year-round, with a dense concentration of LGBTQ+ bars, clubs, restaurants, and accommodations around La Nogalera and along the beach at Bajondillo. La Nogalera is considered the epicentre of LGBTQ+ tourism in the city.
Torremolinos Pride was first held in 2015 and has grown rapidly into a significant festival, attracting over 30,000 participants each year. It runs across nearly two weeks in late May and early June, combining cultural events, film screenings, talks, and concerts with the main Saturday parade and beach closing party. What sets it apart is strong institutional support from the Mayor and local council, with public services actively participating in the parade itself.
The Pride parade starts at the Town Hall in Plaza Blas Infante, moves through the main streets of Torremolinos, and ends at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre, where the Pride Manifesto is read. The best viewing spots are Plaza de La Nogalera and along the parade route toward the beach. The closing beach party takes place at Bajondillo Beach, next to the Eden Beach Club. Staying in or near the town centre puts you within easy walking distance of everything.
Pride is one of the busiest times of the year to visit Torremolinos, so book accommodation as early as possible, hotels and apartments near La Nogalera fill up fast. The parade is free to attend, but specific parties and club nights require tickets that can sell out well in advance, so check listings early.
