Lisbon Pride is actually two separate events, and understanding the difference is the first thing any visitor needs to know. The Orgulho LGBTI+ de Lisboa march — the activist heart of the celebration, moves through Príncipe Real and down to the riverside, organised by a coalition of 20 LGBTQ+ associations. Arraial Lisboa Pride is the festival counterpart: a full-day party at Terreiro do Paço with DJs, drag, and an open-air stage. In 2025, Lisbon hosted EuroPride 2025, drawing tens of thousands to a city that only decriminalised homosexuality in 1982, a context that gives the march on those same streets genuine weight.
As one of Europe’s few future EuroPride hosts, Lisbon will hold a special place in queer travel history. Want to explore every city that’s hosted EuroPride over the years? Check out my full guide to EuroPrides through the years for a journey through this iconic pan-European celebration.

Yes! Portugal is one of Europe's more progressive countries on LGBTQ+ rights, having introduced marriage equality in 2010 and comprehensive trans rights legislation in 2018. Lisbon has a visible year-round queer scene centred on Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto, and the city hosted EuroPride 2025, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors.
Orgulho LGBTI+ de Lisboa is the official Pride march, organised by a steering committee of 20 LGBTQ+ associations and collectives, making it one of the most community-rooted Prides in Europe. A separate event, Arraial Lisboa Pride, is a large-scale outdoor festival that typically takes place in the same period. The two have different organisers and usually fall on different weekends, so check dates carefully before booking.
The Pride march traditionally begins at Jardim do Príncipe Real, passes through Largo de Camões, and ends at Ribeira das Naus on the waterfront. The Arraial festival is usually held at Terreiro do Paço, Lisbon's main riverside square. Staying in Príncipe Real, Bairro Alto, or Chiado puts you within easy reach of both.
Hotels in central Lisbon book out fast in June, particularly anything near Príncipe Real and Chiado. Book accommodation as early as possible, and do the same for flights, as demand across the summer is high. Check exact event dates before booking, as they are typically announced relatively late in the year.
